Manual

With this website the Melle Foundation aims to make the oeuvre and ideas of the artist Melle Oldeboerrigter (1908-1976) digitally available to an audience of art lovers and scholars. The site offers information about Melle’s life, his art, and the many exhibitions of his work.

The heart of the site is the database with all sorts of information about Melle’s artworks.

This database is a work in progress: all known paintings have been described, as have a large number of his watercolors, gouaches, and embroideries. The majority of his drawings have yet to be made accessible.

The database is searchable in many ways: by year, by technique, by public collection, and by theme and motif. For example, enter “monkey” in SEARCH to reveal 24 paintings featuring monkeys. The artworks captions indicate which exhibition(s) the work was shown at and, if known, which other artworks it was displayed with.

Background information about Melle, such as interviews with the artist and essays on his work, can be found in the ARCHIVE section.
